Highlights from the Modern & Contemporary Auction
Among the standout results was a set of eight Kaare Klint Red or Barcelona chairs, circa 1930, which achieved a potential world auction record. Antiques and The Arts Weekly described the collection as “captivating buyers with its rare and distinctive design.”
The sale also featured an extraordinary Isamu Noguchi Akari light sculpture shade, measuring 44 inches in diameter, which brought nearly 30 times its high estimate. The publication noted, “Another possible world auction record may have been set at $23,680.”
These results, along with strong performances from Hervé Van der Straeten, Pierre Yovanovitch, and other leading designers, demonstrate the strength of today’s market and the reach of Newel’s global network of collectors.
“We launched Newel Auctions this year to give our clients and collectors a dedicated platform to buy and sell remarkable pieces directly through NewelAuctions.com,” said Jake Baer, CEO of Newel. “The response to our first sale was incredible, and now that we have our own platform, the sky is the limit. We’re just getting started.”
We extend our sincere thanks to Antiques and The Arts Weekly for recognizing our debut auction and sharing our story with the design and antiques community. Their coverage celebrates both our legacy and the exciting path ahead for Newel Auctions.
