DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT

David Kaihoi

Born and raised in Minnesota, Kaihoi began in the art world, having taught high school ceramics in Minnesota before following another love, his wife, to NYC in 2002.  In New York, Kaihoi worked as an art installer while making sculpture and collage in his Chinatown studio. Apart from gallery and museum art handling, he worked on client installations with many of New York’s leading interior tastemakers, Miles Redd being one.  In 2007, Kaihoi joined Redd’s eponymous firm and became his right-hand man. Kaihoi naturally honed his studio and professional installation experiences into a unique vision within the design world; a fiercely blended downtown sensibility with refined uptown taste.  David brings the discerning eye of an artist to his interior work with a curious mix of materials and a confident use of space. His own work has been featured in House Beautiful, Elle Décor, and Metropolitan Home. He has a signature line of fabric and wallcoverings with Schumacher and a capsule collection of rugs with PFM.  In 2019, Redd named Kaihoi as a partner and renamed the company Redd Kaihoi.

Most adventurous thing I’ve done in my life is thru-hike the Appalachian trail, which to the civilized urbanite means walking through the wooded mountains of eastern America for 4 months!  I am beginning to think it was all a dream…it was many hair styles ago. but there are photos to prove it, and a residual psycho terror at the thought of a rainsoaked sleeping bag.
