Newel Brings Iconic Glamour to Sasha Bikoff's VIP Lounge at Art Basel Miami Beach

At this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach, Newel was honored to collaborate with the visionary designer Sasha Bikoff to help create a breathtaking VIP lounge in partnership with Chubb. Drawing inspiration from the eclectic salons of iconic collectors throughout history and the vibrant, sun-soaked colors of Miami Beach, the lounge celebrated the perfect fusion of bold design, historic elegance, and contemporary art—all while supporting the New York Academy of Art.

Sasha’s design seamlessly blended a variety of styles to craft a space that felt both timeless and refreshingly modern. Central to the aesthetic were standout pieces from Newel’s curated collection, each chosen to complement her daring vision.

As Sasha herself put it:

“Newel is my go-to destination for anything antique, vintage, and out of the ordinary. We selected so many wonderfully unique pieces ranging from European classicism to mid-century Italian and beyond. It’s the mix of different styles and genres that is what brings this space to life.”

Among the featured items were Mid-Century American JMF Low End Greek Key Tables with Lapis Goatskin Tops, adding a touch of sleek geometric sophistication, and an American Memphis-style (1980s) beige textured velvet upholstered bench/sofa, with its dramatic gold lightning bolt frame, embodying playful luxury.

Other highlights included an Italian Neo-classic style white and gold painted round-back carved armchair, adorned with gold damask upholstery and intricate scroll detailing, and an American Victorian circular borne conversation seat, upholstered in pink and green bow-patterned damask with an oak frame, evoking a romantic, vintage charm. Completing the layered look were French Empire off-white painted open armchairs with gilt trim and green stripe upholstery, which added an elegant and classic touch.

By masterfully mixing these varied styles, Sasha created a lounge that felt both dynamic and cohesive. Bold, colorful patterns and textures paired effortlessly with statement pieces, showcasing her distinctive ability to harmonize historical influences with contemporary flair. Each element worked together to transform the space into a sophisticated yet vibrant retreat for Art Basel’s VIP guests.
